The latest from Snowden
WASHINGTON (WJZ) — Former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden offers a Christmas message to the British public. From Russia, where he’s been granted temporary asylum, he pressed for an end to mass government surveillance.
Rochelle Ritchie reports.
NSA leaker Edward Snowden addressed the British people in a pre-taped message, calling U.K. and U.S. governments surveillance worse than anything George Orwell described in his novel 1984.
“We have sensors in our pockets that track us everywhere we go. Think about what this means for the privacy of the average person,” Snowden said.

Britain’s Channel 4 broadcasts an alternative to the queen’s annual Christmas address, and this year, chose Snowden for the message.
It’s a victory lap for the former NSA computer specialist, who earlier this week told the Washington Post he’s “already won” by jump-starting a worldwide debate on government intrusion.

Awesome blog with personal accounts of Korea through American eyes.
“Oh my God, he just said something in Korean; actually said something!? No way! My mind is so blown! What is this madness? Somebody pinch me, this can’t be real. Guys for real…for real tho guys, did you just hear that white guy say a Korean word. I mean what!?”
This is the way I would describe the look that appears on many a Korean’s face after they’ve heard a foreigner say something in Korean; anything in Korean really (I’m generalizing and overdoing it a little, but sometimes this isn’t far from the truth). They seem totally taken aback by the fact that I am able to make recognizable sounds, even when saying something as simple as “thank you” (kam-sam-ni-da) or “nice to meet you” (man-a-so pan-gap-sym-ni-da). The look they give me if I say a complete sentence is absolutely priceless. It’s as if in that moment I…

By Jeff Gilbert, CBS Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) – GM CEO Dan Akerson says we’re coming close to the day when a woman will be the chief executive at one of America’s major carmakers.
“Note that the Detroit three are all run by non-car guys. Someday, there will be a Detroit Three that’s run by a car gal.”
Akerson making the comments at a lunch, sponsored by Inforum, that was part of the first-ever Michigan Auto Summit. He said women can compete, and “compete vigorously” in the competitive automotive industry.
“I don’t know when,” Akerson told reporters. “But I think there are an unbelievable number of talented women in automotive, certainly at General Motors. Just through the performance and hard work, it’s inevitable. It will come to pass.”
There’s been much speculation that GM’s product development chief Mary Barra could be in line to replace Akerson when he retires. The GM CEO wouldn’t discuss…

Architects what are your thoughts?
This river was the reason I was in this particular community the other day. I had a tip that there was a community hanging over the river on stilts so I wanted to check it out. It’s not an easy place to find either. The people in the community were awesome as usual. I’m sure it’s a little awkward having a couple of white boys wanting to basically walk through their living rooms to get a view of the river.
